100% HEMP PAPER A BIG BREAKTHROUGH, "HOME-GROWN USA"

CEED MEDIA TAKES LEAD ON THE STORY AND THE MARKET

The Union Paper Bag Co bought George West's bag mills in 1899 for today's equivalent of $53 million

In 1866, Rock City Falls, NY entrepreneur George West was among the first in the United State to make paper bags from 'abaca' fiber, imported from The Philippines.

From the Troy Daily Times, July, 1866:

“Mr. West is now making one ton of heavy Manilla paper for flour sacks daily, and boasts that his paper is the best of the kind made in the country."

In 1899 he sold all of his mills to the Union Paper and Bag Company for $1.5 million – the equivalent of $54.3 million in 2023 dollars.

This little town is once again making paper history, this time with US-grown hemp. Cottrell Paper is now producing the first 100% hemp paper, including straws and a paper bag. CEED Media is taking a central role in pulling together some of the leading connectors and innovators in the paper world.

According to CEED Media founder Bevan Suits, "The hemp industry is emerging from years of controversy over marijuana. The real value to the US is in the fiber, and Cottrell's first-to-market innovation sets a new chapter for the entire industry. We've got an all-star team to give them all the advantage in scaling up."
